"I'm dating a man nearly double my age because it makes my life 10 times easier"

When window shopping for the man I wanted to settle down with, get married, and have a family, I knew he had to be one thing in particular - almost double my age.

I am 29, turning 30 in October, and my partner is 47, turning 48 in March. While not exactly double in age, there is an 18-year age gap between us.

There are hundreds of reasons I adore an age gap, but the main one is that you can learn so much about what life has to offer from someone who has much more experience than you.
My partner has been a chef for decades, so there isn’t a dish I can’t pick up from him.
He has also seen hundreds more films than I have and read many more books than I have encountered, so he always has a recommendation for me.
Another reason I particularly fell head over heels in love with him was that he’s an amazing father to two now-adult daughters. Not only did it show me how much he loves and respects women, but it also proved he can handle all the challenges that come with being a parent, something I am not yet.
Not only will he know how to change nappies, but he’ll be able to show me how to feed, bathe, and care for our future children.
For my fellow women reading who may be thinking, “Perhaps I should give that an older man a chance.” The best reason for choosing one is that they tend to come with manners intact, and in an old-fashioned, gentlemanly fashion.
Even if my bag is light, he will carry it. He will walk ahead to open doors, and in any way he can think of to make my life easier, he’ll do it.
Of course, naturally, there is the debate that when dating with an age gap, one of you will eventually have to live without the other - but isn’t that the risk we all take? After all, any of us could die at any moment given the wrong timing and circumstances.
So to that debate I say, it’s worth the risk, well worth the risk!
