Finally, Pornhub has developed a new site explicitly for female viewers who are looking to remove men from their pornography content. Entitled “Pornhub Sapphic,” the website has been developed in response to online feedback provided by real Pornhub users, with the intention of exclusively catering to lesbian and non-binary content creators and consumers.
There have long been ongoing conversations about whether mainstream pornography is exploitative of women, and it appears that this has been reflected in the type of content women consume.
You could say that the development of Pornhub Sapphic is, in fact, long overdue because Pornhub identified a clear preference for lesbian pornography amongst women, all the way back in 2019. This concept has been further explored in Academia, with one 2025 study entitled “Boys just ruin it” examining the popularity of lesbian pornography amongst straight women in particular.
The primary reasons provided for this are that lesbian content prioritises female pleasure and gives women agency in the bedroom while removing the sense of degradation.
There are indeed a lot of women who enjoy being called a little slut during sex, but it’s also okay to want to feel valued and respected when exposing our bodies in vulnerable ways.
Pornhub Sapphic is catering to this by producing pornographic content for women with the female gaze in mind and removing all male-targeted advertisements - women do not want to see offers for penis enlargement services and, frankly, it’s also offensive to the average man with a perfectly normal-sized penis.
However, this does not mean the arrival of Pornhub Sapphic has been embraced by all.
Professor Clare McGlynn, an expert on violence against women and girls, who produced the largest online study on pornography usage to date, has argued that “it’s like sticking a plaster over a stab wound.”
Although the content on Pornhub Sapphic may cater to female audiences, it is also true that male users will continue to use mainstream sites where 1 in 8 titles feature explicitly violent treatment of women.
Therefore, if you are a straight woman who engages in having sex with men, the new sense of empowerment found through using a site like Pornhub Sapphic will not naturally extend into real-life encounters.
McGlynn argues that Pornhub is failing to get to the root cause of the issue by separating men and women rather than bringing them together.
I personally can see the benefit of a website like Pornhub Sapphic for female users while also acknowledging that the overall landscape of online pornography needs to change.
