Masturbation May: 10 female celebs who aren't afraid to talk about masturbating

In this merry month of masturbation, we thought it’d be a good idea to champion 10 female celebrities who have been vocally supportive of female pleasure. We are constantly preaching the combined importance of self-love and sexual satisfaction because, at the end of the day, sisters really can do it for themselves!

  1. Billie Eilish was unfiltered in her 2024 Rolling Stone cover story, claiming she “should have a Ph.D. in masturbation.” She intimately described how she likes to masturbate naked in front of a mirror as a method of sexual empowerment.
  2. Demi Lovato launched her very own sex toy, the Demi-wand, with Bellesa, a sexual wellness brand run by women whose mission is to close the pleasure gap. As Demi says herself, “we are all deserving of orgasms.”
  3. Cara Delevigne featured in Planet Sex, an immersive docuseries that follows her as she travels around the world, entertaining different sexual experiences, such as attending a masturbation class where she orgasms “for science,” of course.
  4. Khloe Kardashian came for our gig and wrote an article detailing her personal masturbation advice entitled Just the Tip: My Self-Pleasure Guide. This featured 5 ways to improve your solo sessions, from using porn to spending time with a mirror to get better acquainted with yourself.
  5. Rihanna has long been a supporter of Masturbation May, having tweeted about it as far back as 2012. More importantly, however,  in an iconic move after her breakup with Chris Brown, she publicly wore a t-shirt depicting the lower half of a woman's body with a hand entering her knickers and D.I.Y in bold, red letters written across the top. She is an incredible advocate for embracing your inner sexuality and self-love.
  6. Lily Allen is known for featuring playful, sexually explicit lyrics in her songs to discuss the female experience - It's Not Fair, anyone? However, she also previously went one step further and partnered with sex toy company Womanizer to promote their #IMasturbate campaign on self-love.
  7. Emma Watson admitted in a 2016 talk with Gloria Steinem that she has a personal subscription to OMGYES, a website dedicated to research on women’s personal sexual pleasure.
  8. Miley Cyrus has never been afraid to make headlines, and in 2015, hilariously posted a picture of herself with her hands down her shorts alongside the caption: “A masturbate a day keeps the haters away.”
  9. Mel B encouraged women everywhere to treat themselves to a vibrator in an article with Cosmopolitan. She also found herself in a bit of hot water with Adele after an episode of Celebrity Juice aired where she was asked to name three things you could carry in your anus, and she let slip, “a vibrator!” Girl power!
  10. Gabrielle Union is an actor and sexual assault survivor who routinely advocates for sexual empowerment. She recalls having urges as early as age 5 to rub herself against her teddy bear because it felt like  ‘whoa, oh, oh, ignition, hello!’ and I’m sure some of us can definitely relate to that!
Are you surprised by any of the entries on this list? Can you think of anyone else we should have included? Let us know in the comments.
