How to meet people in real life in a world consumed by online dating

In a world plagued by online dating, it can appear hard to find people in real life, but there are ways and methods - and not just bumping into them in your local boozer.

These days, it is hard to find a couple who didn't meet on Tinder, Bumble, Happn, Her, Raya, The League, etc. Most couples have met through a dating site, and are embarrassed to admit they did, some couples are even lying about where they met, claiming to have met in coffee shops and pubs, when in reality they met on the likes of Tinder.

The sad reality about dating apps is that they are like gambling. You get a high when you get a match, but feel sad if you're endlessly swiping with no matches in sight. However, they do offer convenience, choice, and instant confidence boosts.

If you find dating sites a turn-off, here are some ways you can meet people in real life.

At work

Finding love in the office may not seem romantic, but it is the ideal chance to meet someone who may have a lot in common with you.

Take a look around your workplace and see if anyone stands out.

You never know, Mr/Mrs Right may just be a couple of desks away from you.

Through friends

Why not ask your friends if they know anyone who shares the same interests as you? Or anyone they think you may suit.

Linking through friends can be a great safety blanket during those first few weeks of getting to know one another.

If you don't want to ask your friends, you can always look at who they follow on Instagram, for example or who they have as friends on Facebook.

Travelling

Exploring the globe is a very romantic way to meet someone, so if you haven't thought about travelling, why not?

Go alone or with a friend(s), and explore to find the one you'll adore.

Whilst travelling, you'll have plenty of occasions to meet new people.

At a wedding

Whilst the day is not about you, why not look around a wedding for someone who catches your eye?

Everyone, including you, is dressed to impress, so it is the ideal time to put your game face on and go for it.

To break the ice, you could ask them if they want to dance or grab a drink together.
